About this trip

Rainbow Mountain by ATV from Cusco — Less Walking

The most direct route to Peru's most viral peak. This ATV Rainbow Mountain tour takes you straight to Vinicunca on a quad bike, ends with a short 10-minute walk to the viewpoint at 5,200 m, and skips both the exhausting classic hike and the Red Valley detour. It's the mountain, the ATV, and the photo you came for — nothing that wears you out, nothing that needs a full day of recovery. This is the operator's most-reviewed departure for a reason.

Wake Up Early — Hotel Pickup at 4:00 AM

Your day starts before dawn. We pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 AM, hop into the van, and let you keep sleeping while we drive about 3 hours toward the highlands. No meeting points, no walking in the dark — just show up ready.

Breakfast Stop in Cusipata

Around 7:00 AM, we stop in the mountain town of Cusipata for a hearty 45-minute Andean breakfast: coca tea, coffee, eggs, bread, and fruit. Real fuel before the altitude. Vegetarian? Let us know at booking.

Meet Your ATV at Pachaschaka

By 8:30 AM, we reach the Pachaschaka ATV station. Your instructor covers the controls, brakes, and safety in a short briefing. No prior experience needed — the machines are user-friendly and the terrain is manageable. Choose your ride:

  • 🏍️ Single ATV — you drive solo

  • 👥 Double ATV — one drives, one rides passenger (perfect for couples, friends, or non-drivers)

Helmets, fuel, and gear are all included.

Ride Straight to Vinicunca

For about 30 minutes, you'll cruise through open Andean altiplano toward the Vinicunca viewpoint. Herds of alpacas, tiny stone houses, and the massive glaciated peak of Ausangate grow on the horizon as you ride. It's fun, scenic, and moves fast — you'll arrive at the viewpoint by around 10:00 AM.

A Short 10-Minute Walk to the Photo

Once you park the ATV, it's just a 10-minute walk to the Vinicunca viewpoint. No steep climb, no altitude-crushing hike — just a short stroll to the vantage point where the striped rainbow ridge appears in front of you.

🌈 What You'll See at the Viewpoint

  • The full rainbow-striped ridge — iron reds, sulfur yellows, copper greens, clay whites and lavenders

  • Ausangate, the highest peak in the Cusco region, standing directly across the valley

  • Millions of years of mineral history, only exposed since 2015 when the glaciers receded

Your guide breaks down the geology, points out the best angles for photos, and gives you time to soak it all in. Layers matter here — the summit hovers near freezing even in full sun, and the ridge wind is constant.

Return by ATV and Buffet Lunch

By 12:00 PM, we cruise back on the ATVs to the base station, then head to Cusipata for a hot 45-minute buffet lunch of traditional Peruvian dishes. Fuel for the road home.

Return to Cusco

We roll back into Cusco around 4:00 PM — a full 13-hour day, one epic viewpoint, and the photo of a lifetime.

Why This ATV Option Is So Popular

This is the operator's most-reviewed departure for a reason. It hits the sweet spot for travelers who want:

  • ✨ The Vinicunca photo without the 2-hour hike

  • 🏍️ ATV fun on the way there and back

  • 🕒 A cleaner day — no exhausting descent, no Red Valley detour

  • 💰 A middle-ground price ($67) between the classic hike and the premium ATV + Red Valley combo
